What’s better than learning the importance of good character and how stuff can literally weigh you down?? Not to mention, there are lots of airplane and camping activities that can be extracted from this movie! Here we have three days worth of ideas for you and your family to do based on the movie UP!
One additional activity you can add before nap or bedtime is to read the UP! Goldenbook with your kiddos. It not only reinforces the story and the characters but allows your kid to immerse themselves in the story without being in front of the screen! They are only $5 and super cute!
Day 1:
Academic time:
Scavenger Hunt - Print out the characters from UP and tape them up around your house. Give your kid a list of the characters (using the pictures if they can’t read) and let them explore the house looking for them all! You will need:
printer/printer paper
This print out of the characters and the list
Scissors (to cut out the characters)
Tape (make sure it won’t ruin your walls! Scotch is usually pretty safe but you can also use blue tape or masking tape).
Flashcards - Print out and cut these flash cards. Introduce each word to your toddler and have them repeat after you. Bonus if they go find the item if it’s a common item they have seen around the house.
Letter tracing - Today we are going to work on the letter “U” for Up! I use print outs from ABC Mouse but you can find them easily on Pinterest or Google.
If these activities don’t take your kiddo the whole hour here are other activities to do:
Block stacking
Hopscotch
Creative Time:
Balloon Finger-paint - I found this adorable and free printout on Pinterest. Print it out (we are doing it on card stock paper to make it a little more durable) and let your kid use washable finger-paint to make the “balloons.” You will need:
Finger paint
If this activity doesn’t take your kiddo the whole hour here are other activities to do:
Play dough
Magnatiles
Music time
Day 2:
Academic time:
Finger Puppets - Print out the characters from UP and use your fingers to reenact your favorite parts of the movie. We are trying to encourage pretend play with your kiddos. Maybe make two sets - one to match your finger size and one to fit your kiddo!
printer/printer paper
Scissors (to cut out the characters)
Tape (make sure it won’t ruin your walls! Scotch is usually pretty safe but you can also use blue tape or masking tape).
Flashcards - Print out and cut these flash cards (same as Day 1). Introduce each word to your toddler and have them repeat after you. Bonus if they go find the item if it’s a common item they have seen around the house.
Letter tracing - Today we are going to work on the letter “D” for Doug (and dog!). I use print outs from ABC Mouse but you can find them easily on Pinterest or Google.
If these activities don’t take your kiddo the whole hour here are other activities to do:
Block stacking
Hopscotch
Creative Time:
Feather craft - I found this outline of Kevin but he needs feathers! Let your kiddo glue the feathers on Kevin any way they like. You will need:
Glue stick
If this activity doesn’t take your kiddo the whole hour here are other activities to do:
Play dough
Music time
Day 3:
Academic time:
Pom Pom sorting - Let your kid sort the pom poms (mini balloons that won’t pop!) by color into plastic cups. We also have a plastic tube that she can put them through and watch them slide down.
Cups
Various items to help sort. Think spoons, tweezers, paper, and any various ways to transport the pom poms
Flashcards - Print out and cut these flash cards (same as Day 1). Introduce each word to your toddler and have them repeat after you. Bonus if they go find the item if it’s a common item they have seen around the house.
Letter tracing - Today we are going to work on the letter “B” for balloons. I use print outs from ABC Mouse but you can find them easily on Pinterest or Google.
If these activities don’t take your kiddo the whole hour here are other activities to do:
Block stacking
Hopscotch
