Workout Wednesday 8.1.18
Happy midweek everyone!
It has recently become painfully aware to me that I have one part of my body that I don't workout near enough...my core. By painfully, I mean literal pain. I have a sore back, tight hips and weak balance.
To my credit, I have been getting better in this area. My trainer has had me work on balance and back much more than I used to. But I can tell when going running or hiking, my upper part of my body does not come along for the ride very well and my legs have to do more of the work.
In order to think about the importance of a strong core, we could think about how to build a building. If you have a strong upper body and a strong lower body but no core strength (relatively speaking) it's like making the top and bottom of a building out of steel and the middle out of spaghetti. The core is the part that connects the two and if it can't support the strength of the limbs, you put a ton of strain on other parts of your body that weren't built for that.
So long story short, I'm going to recommit to working out my core by adding a 10-15 minute ab workout to the end of my runs through Nike Training Club. It's on my phone and easy to pull up wherever. Hopefully, I will feel a difference not only in my workouts, but in my everyday as well!
