Workout Wednesday 5.9.18
Hi everyone! I thought today we would take a brief look at how powerful the mind can be over the body.
As I've mentioned in previous Workout Wednesday segments, Jared and I have been working with a personal trainer. It's definitely a luxury. Show up, have him guide us through the workout, work hard, go home. But something happened the other day that was quite eye opening to me.
Our trainer Dustin was having us do "cable pull downs" (I'm terrible when it comes to the names of these moves). But you know...it's the one where theres a wide bar attached to a cable and you pull it down, working on your back. Jared and I were having to use the same machine and usually, Dustin changes the weight for us. But at one point, he was setting up the next set and so I asked him which one I should set it on and he told me "70 lbs."
It was at this point that I realized just how far I have come in a year. I remember posting how much my arms hurt after my first workout with him and we were nowhere close to 70 lbs on this machine. And now, I do this weight as my regular workout!
I know me and I know I might have psyched myself out if I would have been doing this kind of stuff on my own. Because I chose to trust (and pay) someone who knew what they were doing, I am now progressing faster than I expected. And to tie it all together, I think a majority of my success is due to letting my mind get out of the way of what my body is actually capable of doing.
So to quote my favorite song, "Let it go!" And sometimes you need to just go for whatever your goal is without overanalyzing it all the time.
